Nowadays 60 varieties of Coffea have been categorized. Coffea is the shrub of the Rubiaceae family which gives us the elixir that makes us dance, love, and win. Only 25 types of plants are cultivated for the purpose of coffee consumption and among them only 4 have a relevant spot on the market

Arabica

Coffea Arabica was the first known coffee variety and even if the name under which it’s classified may suggest otherwise, it’s possible that it comes from Ethiopia. Its quality is one of the best and it contains a low amount of caffeine. Among its best-known varieties we can acknowledge Moka, it’s cultivated in Arabia, and has a very pleasant smell; Bourbon which is very well-known in Brazil; Maragogype; Typica; Caturra and Mundo Novo

Robusta

Coffea Robusta is originally from Central Africa, it’s slightly inferior to Arabica quality-wise but way superior to it concerning productivity.

Liberica

Coffea Liberica is originally from the Gold Coast, between Liberia and the Ivory Coast ,its seeds are very resistant to parasites but it needs lots of water and high temperatures to grow. Despite its beans being of an inferior quality the coffee it produces has a pleasant taste and smell.  

Excelsa

Coffea Excelsa adapts itself very well to the terrain in which it grows and needs dry climates to grow. It has a very high agricultural output and its coffee is similar to Arabica’s, its intensity is a medium one and its flavor is soft and velvet-like.
